First time CTOs and Tech Founders and Chief Technology Officers (CTOs) and Non-Tech Founders that need Tech Leadership guidance ro fractional CTO help while they find a technical co-founder or CTO/VP Eng/Head of Tech.
In 2 words? Getting unstuck. In one word? Direction.
Going in where they are and helping them through the muck and out of the weeds. Could be in their mind, or in their daily grind. It could be communicating with their CEO/C-level peers or their team. Until I have a strategy session with them, it's impractical to predict.
Wholistically, I provide them with a map of what's to come, a mindset of who to become, mechanics of what to do and the momentum on how to move forward.
Practically, once I know where they are and where they need to go next, I help them come up with a strategy based on my own experience and insights and those I've gathered in my coaching years.
Mostly first-time tech founders and CTOs located in Canada and the US. Startups like Stay22.com, B-Temia.com, Funnelytics.io among others. Also, first time non-tech founders and their teams like HappyBean.ca, and even solopreneurs of industry small businesses like AIM-BI.com.
It varies from client to client. Without getting into private conversations and contract specifics, here are some highlights:
1) Providing a roadmap for the work ahead in phases, and who to hire to do the work to help them pull back to focus on strategy and sales. This allowed one particular client to hire a lead dev, lead them into the work needed, and gain the time to pre-sell new clients for the new module being developed. None of which was possible when they were stuck coding the solution themselves. They were stuck in the weeds.
2) Helping them prepare for pitching to investors, applying for funding and providing guidance for co-founder agreements and responsibilities. This allowed a particular client to take over certain responsibilities they had delegated that caused confusion roles and the vision was splintered. Now the CEO does the pitching and the CTO is roadmapping the product with a clear market to validate instead of debating who does what and who the market target is.
3) Helping them prepare a go-to-market and working through difficult objectives from the CEO as the market had changed. They were able to ask clarifying questions on what was required and accelerate prototyping to get to market on time by removing features. That provided confidence to the CTO's engineering team who stopped debating and started building.
